Context of the position
The current FRC program, implemented in Bader district (Amman), aims at reinforcing social cohesion between Syrian refugees and host communities, while improving their living conditions. Activities include: forming and training of community groups, micro-project development and implementation (vocational training, parks renovation, sport events for children), WASH in schools, housing renovation, and psychosocial support. Starting from January 2017 and depending on donors’ project proposals approval, FRC programing will focus on education and livelihoods.
The education project will be implemented in coordination with the Jordanian Red Crescent Society (JRCS), the Danish Red Crescent (DRC), and FRC team in Iraq (to build regional synergies). It will be implemented in Bader district, Amman, and will include three main components:
- improvement of educational infrastructures through physical rehabilitation and empowerment of educational teams and parents
- strengthening of families and educational teams’ capacity to prevent children’s school failure and exclusion due to psychosocial issues
- improvement of school access by addressing barriers and increasing parents and education teams’ involvement
The position
The Access to Education project manager will be responsible for launching the education project in Bader district, Amman, in compliance with donor’s and FRC’s guidelines and quality standards.
RESPONSIBILITIES
All of the responsibilities and tasks mentioned in this job description are intended to be implemented by the Jordan Access to Education PM in strong collaboration with his/her counterpart in Iraq
- A- ensure the overall coordination, planning, monitoring and management of the project, in partnership with JRCS
- B- manage and train the project team
- C- ensure adequate communication, internal and external reporting on the project
- D- contribute to context analysis and development of FRC operational strategy in Jordan
HIERARCHICAL AND FUNCTIONAL LINK
The project manager reports to the Head of Delegation.
He/she supervises one engineer, one community mobilizer officer and one participatory approach officer
Functional links
Internal:
- at HQ: psychosocial technical adviser, WASH and construction adviser
- within Jordan Delegation: logistic and administration/finance departments, other project teams operating in Bader district
- at regional level : Iraq PM counterpart
External:
- collaborates with the JRCS, Danish Red Cross
- collaborates with local authorities and community representatives
- collaborates with institutional and technical partners of the project (Donors, INGOs, UN agencies etc.)
Profile of the candidate
EDUCATION
- Degree, preferably in psychology, social studies, social sciences; Master in humanitarian studies or international cooperation
LANGUAGES
- very good command of English
- Arabic and French an asset
POSITION REQUIREMENT
Linked to the function of project manager
- experience in implementing program related to psychosocial and / or educational access
- experience / knowledge on children’s right and protection
- experience / knowledge on rehabilitation would be an asset
- strong experience in community mobilization
- strong project and team management skills
- sound experience in partnership and capacity building
- good communication, analytical and drafting skills
- experience in the development of psychosocial activities would be an asset

- excellent interpersonal and intercultural skills
- good knowledge or experience of the Red Cross Movement preferred
- rigor, flexibility and adaptation capacities
