Organization: Croix-Rouge Française
Country: Jordan
Closing date: 31 Jan 2017

Context of the position

Mid-2013, the French Red Cross (FRC) launched operations to assist Syrian refugees fleeing the war. The humanitarian needs involved by the magnitude of this crisis are substantial and call for an increasing response. On the side of the National Societies, the FRC intervenes in Lebanon, Jordan and Iraq. The highest proportion of Syrian refugees is concentrated in the northwest of the country, especially the urban areas of the three Governorates of Irbid, Mafraq and Amman (84% of the Syrians refugees). Consequently, host community resources are getting strained, public infrastructures saturated, social services overstretched while, in parallel, rent prices and competition for jobs are increasing, enhancing economic vulnerabilities and tensions between refugees and host populations.

The current FRC program, implemented in Bader district (Amman), aims at reinforcing social cohesion between Syrian refugees and host communities, while improving their living conditions. Activities include: forming and training of community groups, micro-project development and implementation (vocational training, parks renovation, sport events for children), WASH in schools, housing renovation, and psychosocial support. Starting from September 2016 and depending on donors’ project proposals approval, FRC programing will focus on education and livelihoods.
The livelihoods project will be implemented in coordination with the Jordanian Red Crescent Society (JRCS), the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), and FRC team in Iraq (to build regional synergies). It will be implemented in Bader district, Amman, and will include two main components:
