The International Potato Center (CIP) is seeking to recruit a dynamic and experienced Driver to provide support to CIP-Rwanda office.

The Position: The Driver will assist the project vehicles in Rwanda and handling various clerical tasks within the organization. The Driver will work very closely with staff to provide efficient support to them and organizational activities.

Key responsibilities:

  • Normal pre-drive checks on official vehicles.
  • Follow-up with garage on service of official vehicles.
  • Cleanliness of official vehicles.
  • Entry of mileage records in the logbook and send monthly records to the Finance and Admin Assistant.
  • Driving of staff during field visits.
  • Receiving and transporting CIP visitors.
  • Ensure regular maintenance and servicing of project vehicles with reputable service providers.
  • Report accidents or incidents to the supervisor in a timely manner.
  • Ensure compliance with CIP driving policy in case of involvement in an accident.
  • Running general office errands – bill payments, official document delivery etc.
  • Any other tasks that may be assigned by supervisor.

Selection Criteria:

  • Valid driver’s license.
  • At least 2 years of experience required in similar positions with a safe driving record.
  • Knowledge of driving rules and regulations.
  • Basic knowledge of car mechanics and ability to attend to minor repairs and maintenance of the vehicle in case of breakdown will be an advantage.
  • Computer literate and conversant with the MS Office.
  • Ability to adapt to different work situations and work in a team.
  • Experience in driving 4x4 vehicles over long distances and on rough terrain.
  • Willingness to spend considerable time working under field conditions in rural areas.
  • Good written and oral communication skills with good command of English and Kinyarwanda language.
  • Possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and a high level of respect for confidentiality.
  • Strong ability to co‐ordinate, prioritize and organize workload; take initiative and work under pressure.
  • Highly effective planning, organizational and multi‐tasking skills with a positive attitude.

What are the conditions?

The position is Nationally Recruited Staff (NRS) position limited to Rwandan nationals and permanent residents only. The employment contract will be for a one-year (with a 3-month probation period) possibility of renewal, subject to availability of funding.
