Uganda: Baseline Study - Consultant

The position: The International Potato Center is looking for a consultant to conduct a baseline study on the status of OFSP production and utilization and the nutritional status and welfare of sweetpotato growing households in Northern and Eastern Uganda. The study will be conducted in the following districts; Adjumani, Lamwo, Kitgum, Pader, Omoro, Agago, Kotido, Moroto, Tororo, Busia, Butaleja and Bugiri districts of Uganda.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design the data collection tools;
  • Collect data in the study areas;
  • Submit both the qualitative and quantitative data collected and field photos. The data sets should be in both Excel and STATA format;
  • Prepare and submit a detailed final report of the survey findings with S.M.A.R.T. recommendations to CIP on strategies to increase adoption, consumption of OFSP and improvement in the nutritional status of individuals and households;
  • The consultant is expected to present findings in a stakeholder’s workshop organized by CIP.

Selection Criteria

  • A master’s degree in Agricultural Economics, Agribusiness, Nutrition or other relevant post-graduate qualification but with agricultural/socio-economics background;
  • At least seven years of experience of consulting;
  • Demonstrated evidence of conducting impact evaluation studies;
  • Strong demonstrated experience and knowledge of quantitative and qualitative research and data analysis methods;
  • First author of at least three peer reviewed journal papers;
  • Excellent communication, report writing and presentation/facilitation skills.

What are the conditions?

The consultancy is limited to Uganda nationals and permanent residents only**.** The consultancy contract will be for a sixty (60) day term within the months of January to April 2020. The schedule will be agreed upon by the consultant and CIP based on a workplan developed by the consultant in the proposal.
